BT BB username

I'm beginning to wonder if BB was a good idea...

BT supplied me with a lovely Voyager 205 ADSL Router which all works fine as
far as connecting to the exchange.

What it doesn't do is allow me to connect to anything when I use the
username (E-Mail Removed) without a password - as it says in
the user guide. I have to use my old dialup username and password before I
can connect to anything.

NO point in calling customer service because trying to understand and be
understood by one of our colonial brethren from the sub-continent is
marginally less productive than banging someone's head against a wall.

Anyone any ideas why the correct (E-Mail Removed) does not
work?

Cheers

is this a problem ?

the help FAQs for using 3rd part routers say
"You also require your BT Broadband username. This is made up of
(E-Mail Removed) where "your" equals your first name and
"name" equals your surname, e.g. (E-Mail Removed). BT
Broadband does not require that you enter a password to connect but
some routers won't connect to the Internet without a password, in
which case enter the word BT."

presumably the voyager205.user thing is to allow them to pre-config
routers for newbies. Also seen (E-Mail Removed) kicked
around and some places say you don't need anything :-)

So no idea why it didn't work, but does it matter anyway if
(E-Mail Removed) are accepted.

You can put in anything you want for the password, as it's not
authenticated, but username must be right, usually in the form
(E-Mail Removed)

Had the same problem when I first switched to a router and took me ages to
figure it out

The 205 is usually supplied already configured when receiving this
unit with BT Broadband.

Just put in any password, it doesn't matter as long as something is
entered.

Also, the username is irrelevant, as long as it's of the form :-

(E-Mail Removed)

The important piece is @btbroadband.com, the bit before the @ can be
anything you want.

I have the same modem/router and I use that username, the password blank,

I had a lot of problems when the our exchange got enabled and only got
Geordies, Scots and Irish on the fault reporting and technical help lines.
they were all were extremely helpfull and I could understand all of
them....(mind you took 4 days before it was flagged up as a major outage!!)
Some of the questions asked seem a bit banal and setting fixed IP's screwed
up my network, but they did eventually admit the fault wasn't at my end! I
knew that....

The most annoying problem was actually getting through I started off trying
to hold and ended up leaving my number but they did phone me back as
promised.

Thanks for all your ideas, but the sad fact remains that whatever I put for
the (E-Mail Removed) whether I use a password or not, it will not
connect. The only way I can connect is if I use my old Anytime username &
password combination.

The reason this is a problem is because when I cancel my Anytime
subscription, that username & password combination will probably stop
working too! Incidentally, BT said that my old Anytime subscription would be
cancelled automatically when I upgraded to broadband - guess what? It
wasn't!

Maybe just as well at the moment until I get this sorted.

Oh well, better go and practice my Punjabi, gibberish, or whatever language
the help desk speaks these days.........

How are you actually connecting ?

Have you upgraded your Anytime to BT Yahoo! Broadband, or have you got
BT Broadband ? - there is a difference.

If you have upgraded your Anytime, then there is nothing else to do -
do NOT cancel it

Your connect ID may be of the form :-

(E-Mail Removed)

with password as usual.

No, the username in this particular case would have been the original
primary email address before the @

For the original case, if the OP has incorrectly entered
@btbroadband.com (i.e. incorrect spelling), then it wont work.

Upgraded to BT Broadband... not BT Yahoo

But I don't want to carry on paying the Anytime subscription as well as BT
Broadband.
