"BT today announced the next trial phase for its ADSL broadband Max
service, which will deliver downstream line speeds of up to 8 Mbit/s.
Commencing at the end of November, the trial will lay the foundation
for the intended commercial launch of higher speed broadband services
across the UK by Spring 2006."

nothing new, more trials on more exchanges.

Consider that the thread is about speed - did you want to take a guess ..

Oh I see what you mean. Telewest claim they will have 10M available to
their Elite customers (and 4M to their Complete customers) by early
2006. BT claim their Max service will be across the UK by Spring 2006.

Telewest are clearly lagging behind BT where I live - Telewest have a
speed of zero here.

The Telewest 10M rollout is doing fine, thank you. Your comparative
"available to" with "will be across the UK by" is quite incorrect.

As for availability, it's a sensible checklist question these days. Are
the schools good, are the shops clean and convenient, is the house cabled.

What are the required line characteristics?

My line currently supports 1M but not 2M. Presumably I have *no* chance of
getting 8M - unless the technology is completely different?
