Browsing Server 2003 redirected folders with XP is slow!!!

I have 'My Docs' folder redirection enabled with GP on server 2003. When I
browse the folder on a XP machine, it responds very slow. An example would be
if I right click a file to get the context menu, the menu takes a long time
to come up.

Thanks

This can be attributed to a DNS issue, which is a classic issue. In an AD
environment, ensure that all machines only use the internal DNS server. All
AD services and resource locations are stored in DNS. A domain machine (DC,
member server or client) will contact DNS to "find" a DC to authenticate
against. If browsing is ok, then attempting to open a share is slow, there
may be an authentication issue, which if the machine is configured to use an
ISP's DNS, then it is asking that DNS for a DC in it's domain, which it does
not have an answer for.

If all the machines in the domain are already ONLY using the internal DNS
server in their IP properties, then we can eliminate the above issue.
Therefore, if I may suggest to post an ipconfig /all of the DC and of one of
the clients, along with an Event ID errors that are showing up in the Event
viewer of the client and DC.

The only DNS in the client IP settings are internal DNS settings, and there
is nothing in the clent event viewer to indicate anything wrong. I am using
load balancing on the server for a different IP range and subnet. The only
time I have a problem is when I am browsing with XP. 2000 works fine. I do
have some MS updates to do. The DC (which is also the DNS server) has its
first DNS set to itself and the second DNS set to our corp DNS. As for the DC
event viewer, I have saved the DNS, App, and the System logs. Is there a
specific event ID I should look for. Or could I email them to you, or what
would be the best way fot you to see them.

Thanks again!!!

Possibly the load balance IP is not registered in WINS?

You are using a /23 subnet, however, the load balancing IP you show above is
a /24.

Typo?

We go through an edge router (which corp is in charge of) to join the two but, it doesn't route properly, so a pc that is on the 13 subnet can't autenticate to the domain. I had to use load balancing just to get them connected. Please keep the laughter to minimum......

Wow (holding back my astonishment). Can I assume the corp DNS listed in the
IP config you provided and your DNS locally all have references to the AD
domain and they are not external DNS servers?

I can see part of the authentication issue can be possibly due to the
subnets being different, DNS infrastructure is not setup correctly, or
routing is not properly setup or failing due to subnet masks or lack of
static routes?

But the trouble I am having is on a machine that is on the same ip and subnet as the DC that I am browsing the redirected folders on, so I'm not crossing a router to get to it. And, I only have the the local DNS in the IP properties of the client doing the browsing. This has to be some kind of XP/2003 issue!!!!

Thanks.
