I have 2 sites set up in the same domain both running
Win2k3 std and both are DC's and are running AD, DNS, WINS
and DHCP. THe DNS is set up as a single zone and one site
is the Primary and the other site is the Secondary. Both
sites can browse localy and AD is showing resources on
both sites. We are routing across the internet for our
site to site connection and the firewalls trust all
traffic between the DC's.
WINS shows all the PC's in both sites correctly.
I cannot browse either site? Is there something I am
missing or is this by design? I can't find any refernce
to site to site browsing anywhere.
Thanks
Jim

Have you set up the WINS servers as replication partners?

Once the connection is up and stable, the two sites look just like any
other two subnets connected by a router (a slow one)! So browsing works as
described for NT browsing. See KB 150800 and 188001 . If WINS has entries
for the master browser in each site it should work.

If you are using the DCs as the RRAS routers, you may have the
additional problem of a multihomed browser. See KB 292822 .

Yes, and they are replicating fine, both WINS lists have
the list including entries from both sites.

Thanks, I did have the RRAS service running and browsing
stopped completely. I followed the changes in KB 292822
but that did not cure the problem? I had to disable RRAS
to get local browsing working. Still can't browse the
entire domain.. Still stuck!

since you have RRAS that will create another transport on the DC, that will
confuse the DC. To confirm that, use browstat to check the master browser
status. if you do have two NetBT_tcpip, you should disable Netbios over
Tcpip on the RRAS.

If you have had a browser problem after enabling RRAS for remote
access, check that you do not still have multiple entries in WINS for the
browsers. They can hang around, even after you disable Netbt on the RRAS
interface.

I have actualy removed and reinstalled WINS on both sites
and still have the problem. RRAS is not running so I
can't find a reason there. Here is a clue I think. I
have a single domain spanning two sites, is there a way
the browser will filter by subnet on a domain?
Thanks for the help....

I have a similar setup which works (one domain, two sites linked by a
router-to-router VPN).

Do other Netbios operations work? Can you do a net view \\machinename to
a machine in the other subnet? If this works but the browse list for the
domain doesn't show up in Network Places, something (firewall etc) is
probably blocking UDP port 138 . If no Netbios things work, then all the
Netbios ports (135-138) are probably blocked.
