I have a win2k machine that browses very slow. It can take up to a minute
for the window to return a list of machines. If it does at all.
I run browstat on it and it finds any machine I try, but again it takes a
minute plus to do it. But because it finds the machine I ask for, no error
is reported. (the XP machine on my desk pops them up immediately.)
On the same machine is a Cisco VPN client that is used to process credit
cards. It's IP is 10.200.x.x, my networks IP range is 10.0.0.x with 11
machines on it.
The subnet for that machine lan nic appears to have to be 255.0.0.0 (to
communicate with the VPN client I imagine) where the rest of the network is
255.255.255.0
I have disabled the computer browser service on this machine since it is
multihomed per Browstat reccomendation and it won't start anyway. and there
is only one master browser and it is the server.

The win2k server is set to 100mbps full duplex and is AD enabled hosting
DNS. Its's the only server
I have this nagging problem on most systems I deal with so since I am the
common link, the problem must be with me and my settings. But what?

Not quite sure why your NIC settings have to be 255.0.0.0. I use a Cisco VPN
Client to access a remote network but there is no restricions on what subnet
I should configure on the LAN Nic.

If you change the subnet to the same setting as the rest of the clients on
the network i.e. 255.255.255.0 does this resolve your issue?

tried the mask and it didn't change the issue
It's only this one machine at the moment too.
