Browser won't work on wireless

I installed an Airlink wireless router at home and the Thinkpad (running XP
pro) worked fine. Then, back at work, the browser didn't work. One of our IT
folks modified something (I believe it had to do with DNS server) and it
worked. But it no longer works at home. Well....sometimes if I do unnatural
acts (like re-boot the router) it does.

Can anyone lead me through this?

Thanks,

Ken

Use the IBM Access networking app (don't remember the exact name and I
don't run Windows on my X31 so just look for it) to set up different
wireless profiles for your laptop.

Thanks, Malke.

Unfortunately, I can't find such an app on this machine. I should have been
paying closer attention to what the IT person was doing.

Also...I do have an internet connection from the wireless modem. For
instance, the VPN program works fine and once connected (not surprisingly),
I can browse just fine through the company network. It's local browsing that
doesn't work.

Thanks,

Ken

What Thinkpad model do you have?. This is a common problem with laptops
works in various enviroments. In a Building LAN like you Company, they use
VPN to connect to the Wireless Nework to avoid hackers and virus attack, and
also use a Static IP, DNS and WINS. When you try to connect at home in the
most of cases the connection is Dinamically (IP, DNS). To alternate a
connection do you have to get a Software that create Profiles that save the
Config at Work and Home separately. In the T42, the software that comes with
the Centrino Bundle you can create Profiles to avoid this incovenients.

I hope that this information can help you to resolve the problem. I
recommend use the original software incluide in the PCMCIA Card or PCI Card,
and MiniPCI incluide in the most recent Laptops. Do not use a third party
software.

Out of all seriousness, since it is your personal computer you should ask
your IT guy what he did, I think you have the right to know.

Thanks, Alejandro. I'll look into this. Your comments make sense and I
simply need to work through the issue. This has been helpful.

Ken

Good comment, James.

Yep...if I don't have this resolved by Monday, I'll get help from the IT
staff. I am attempting to rise to the challenge of solving it prior to then
and, who knows...I might learn something.

Regards,

Ken

Ken - Go to www.lenovo.com and click on Support and Downloads. Then
enter Notebooks, Thinkpad (your model), and download/install IBM Access
Connections software. And yes, you should find out what your IT Dept.
did and have them help you. The Access Connections software is
excellent. Thinkpads are designed for business people and so they
automatically assume that you will be connecting to different networks,
needing a projector, etc.
