If you are confident that you don't need Netbios names at all, you can
disable Netbios over TCP/IP on all systems, and do all your file sharing
using direct hosting. (See KB 315267). Then you won't need the browser
service at all, and will eliminate some LAN broadcasts.
If you stay with Netbt, your PDC emulator automatically becomes the
Domain Master browser. You can use the browstat utility (from the support
tools) to see what the browser service is doing.
Preventing a server from becoming a browse master is a registry change.
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser\Par ameters
The entry is MaintainServerList . To prevent it becoming a browser, change
Auto to No .
