Broadband/TV/Phone packages

I'd like to speed up my internet connection (currently slow dial-up),
so am tempted by broadband. I am in a Telewest cable area so could get
their broadband package together with TV (kid pester-power at work
here) and telephone (not really needed, but it makes sense for the
package deals).

My other option (I think?) would be to keep my bt phone line and go
for ADSL and then have either Sky/Freeview/Cable for the tv as a
separate deal.

Would a cable package from Telewest be ok? Are there any other options
worth looking into?

Thanks,

Debbie

Forget Telewest. Think BT before privatisation and you'll have a good
idea what you would be letting yourself in for.

That said, many people have no problem at all with Telewest, and there`s
a helpful guy who hovers around this newsgroup who may be able to help
with some problems - he works for them.

Is that the one who promises to look into things? I've seen no evidence
he ever gets any of the problems sorted. Sounds like typical Telewest
bullshit to me.

Is this the same poster who came into the by groups the other day trying
to be all nice and friendly?

The third option is to get the broadband only from Telewest but keep
Sky and BT. That's what I did because I prefer Sky to the Telewest TV
service, and kept my BT line because I can get cheaper calls through
alternative providers which you can't do with telewest.

I have had no problems with the Telewest broadband service at all and
found it to be very fast and reliable.

To be honest though, I would get ADSL if it available was in my area,
simply because it is a bit cheaper.

Thanks for the comments.

From the costings I've seen, it's cheaper to get Telewest broadband
with their TV + phone package (£43 p.m., free installation + modem)
than it would be for me to get ADSL via another provider and SKY tv.
Mainly because I wasn't planning on getting the premium tv package so
would have to pay £100 installation for Sky, then £18(tv), £20 (say)
ADSL + £10 phone per month.

Long term ADSL may be cheaper, but for the first year it works out
more expensive?

If SKY is the problem, here is what I had been adviced by SKY rep (and I
took this option last year), take up the £1 installation offer and
subscribe for the premium package for a month and downgrade to family
package (£18) a month after. But again, if Telewest is charging
£43/month, it will still be lower than what I'm paying for my
BT/Pipex/SKY combination now which is at around £50/month.

Is this right? I too am looking for a Broadband/TV/Phone solution.
At the moment my best (only?) option seems to be a BT phone line, with
broadband from an ISP (say Pipex), and TV from Sky. But I thought a
condition of the cheap/free installation offers from Sky was a minimum
one year subsription to one of the premium packages. Are you saying
they don't enforce this in practice? Can anyone confirm this?
