Broadband Trigger Levels

Anyone any idea how BT set there trigger level.

I live in a village and the level has been set at 350 only 279 registered so
far so we still have a long way to go even with a newspaper campaign.
However I have noticed a couple of large towns near me have there trigger
level set at 300. Which seems unfair as the smaller communities are going to
find it harder to get connected to Broadband. Or is it that they are only
looking for profit return!!

Thanks

It's based on how much it costs to enable a particular exchange. Small
rural exchanges are more expensive to upgrade because they are usually
further away from main network nodes. But you may find that if the nearby
towns become ADSL enabled the cost of enabling your exchamge may fall
because it can be parented off one of those other exchanges.

This is correct. The trigger level for my exchange sat at 400 for 18 months
but when a much larger next-door exchange became enabled, our local exchange
trigger point suddenly dropped to 200. The pre-reg number was 189 before
this and the trigger point was reached in one week, with a enabled date 4
months away.

Have you worked out what area the exchange covers, got the free
leaflets from eclipse (www.wewantbroadand.co.uk) and BT
(www.getonandgetit.co.uk) and done a door to door. Not everyone reads
papers. TIP - find 12-15 old school kids to help in this as they will
be keen for ADSL.

Finally the other thing you might consider is going down the WiFi
route. This can be viable at very low numbers, say 60, and where it
looks like WiFi is a realistic prospect BT seem to drop the threshold
levels.
