I see various companies are offering broadband thorugh your existing sky
dish. Is this for real? Or a marketing ploy to get me to buy a new giant
dish ?
I want an inexpensive way to utilise my sky dish and get adsl, hoping this
is the answer.

Which are the companies? I'm looking in to broadband very soon.

I think provided you don't go for BT, AOL or Freeserve the costs are
quite reasonable.

Very few are charging for connection now.

Just looking at that Opensky. I dont think it works with the sky minidish.
From what I can tell, the dish needs to be 60cm diameter, and I think the
sky dish is 40 something. This needs investigating further, thanks :-)

On any internet connection, you still need to upload data in order to
download data. The dish can only take incoming data, so therefore you need a
parallel connection to a telephone line for it to work anyway, otherwise,
your PC won't be able to confirm the packets that have been received. Even
by maxing out a 56kbps modem uplink, you would still see some lag in
particular areas of use, and it wouldn't be much good for online gaming,
where uplink speed is just as important as download speed.

Not to mention the delay the satellite roundtrip imposes.

I have a couple of spare 60cm in my garage, but the 80cm and Sky digital
ones are still in use. If you even need a 60cm it is free for you :-)
