Broadband speed test

Yesterday, I upgraded a Wanadoo broadband account, from one to two meg and
having confirmation that the upgrade is active, ran several speed tests.
The reading I get is only one meg when using my F5D/7632-4 Belkin wireless
router/modem. If I swop this modem/router for the original ADSL
speedtouch 330 modem, the test gives a reading of two meg. Why would this
be, and can I do anything with the settings for the Belkin modem/router to
up its speed to the two meg I've upgraded too?

are you connecting to it wirelessly ? that has the potential to be
going that slow. Is it repeatable if you swop back ?

does the Belkin show the faster modem sync speed - I wonder if you had
rebooted it after the speed change.

Thanks Phil, the Belkin wireless modem/router in connected to a netgear
ethernet card in my desktop PC via an ethernet cable. My laptop is
connected to a Belkin laptop network card model F5D7010 wirelessly. The
USB Speedtouch 330 was connected directly to the ADSL phoneline via a
filter when comparing differences. I'm presently at work, so cannot
confirm if it is repeatable when the modems are swopped. I will check
this evening. I cannot see a speed for the Belkin modem/router, where
should I look for it? I have noticed if I hover over the flashing monitor
icon in the taskbar that it shows a connection of 100.00kbps doing the
same with the Speedtouch connected shows a figure of 2.2 meg. The email
from my ISP informing me of the upgrade activation mentioned noting about
rebooting my PC, so none was done.

Try rebooting your Router.
I went a few days after my upgrade thinking my downloads were still the same
speed. My Draytek Vigor reported the new 2Mb speed but hadn't actually
changed until I rebooted.

try using http://10.0.0.100/ADSL_status_main.stm
(replace 10.0.0.100 with your router's IP address)
(copied from a post I made for someone with the earlier model, but I hope
it will work for yours, too). Peter M.

be interesting to see if both the wired and wireless connections are
the same speedwise.

If its a repeatable difference visit
http://www.speedguide.net/analyzer.php from wired, wireless and via
Speedtouch modem to see if MTU, MSS and RWIN settings are all
sensible.

usually on Home page or System Status or ADSL Status of router web
interface. For example on mine's Home page :-
ADSL Status CONNECTED
Data Rate
Downstream/Upstream 1152Kb/288Kb

I've rebooted my router and carried out a new speed test recommended by my
ISP at www.adsl.org This gave me a reading of 1521Kbts which my ISP
confimed was correct for my upgrade at a busy period, so I guess its done
the trick. Many thanks to you and everyone else for your help.
