Well, mine is..... a lot more than 2m away from the master socket, there are
extensions running through the roof, splitters, more extensions, I've
probably exceeded the REN for my line, but never mind.
I think if anything, they may be refering to the digital bit of the
connection, between the adsl modem (or router, whatever your having) and the
microfilter. My wire to the microfilter is only 1m long.
ADSLNation (
www.adslnation.com) say you can safely run up to 20m between
your modem and your microfilter.
Normal telephone extensions do have a limit, but it's great enough that most
sain people (as long as they don't own buckingham palace) shouldn't have a
problem with the phone line extension limit.
