Specifically, on 'The Racecourse' in Sale (for an employee of a
customer) . The availability checker says maybe but it's a relatively
new estate (1960s-70s) so I'm worried about fibre, aluminium etc.. Any
experience? Please tell me ADSL works, I really don't want to have to
use N(early) T(otal) L(osers)

Why not NTL? I'm in the south Mancheter area, a few miles from Sale, and
I can strongly recommend them (600kbps service via STB).

Want to use VPN, have had bad experiences with downtime, download limits
*may* impact users and the upstream speed is slow, dynamic IP addresses,
enough reasons yet?

Calling them "N(early) T(otal) L(osers)" made me think you had purely
spurious reasons.

Anyway, I've never had to use VPN so can't comment further, other than
to say isn't
<http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/cmtips/vpn.html> a way
around it?

No real downtime problems to speak of here.

Upstream is slow, granted.

The dynamic IP addresses are very static. I use DynDNS.org just in case.

A few probably spurious ones but enough real ones to make me think
twice.

Could be, I will investigate further if ADSL isn't an option.

The service seems to be reliable enough, but the real issue is how fast
they can fix a problem when it occurs. I've seen some really shoddy
customer service/fault resolution.
>Upstream is slow, granted.

The constant hammering from virus infected clients I saw only a month
ago on a friends' NTL connection won't help either.

A static IP is very desirable from my point of view.
