Hi,

I'm moving up to Liverpool soon to an apartment less than 0.5km from this
exchange. Could anyone recommend any BB supplier for good speeds?

Thanks!

That is, of course, if one is a member of the of the upper classes and
therefore considers all of "the provinces" to be beneath them (same
principle as going "up" to Oxford or Cambridge Unis and being sent
"down" if one is a naughty boy/girl).
If, however, one is of the geographic persuasion, one moves "up" to
Liverpool from anywhere south of that location.
:-)

almost any of them If the exchange is ADSL2+ enabled you should be
somewhere in the 15MBPS region I would wet-fingerly estimate. If not
around 6Mpbs.

what you should be looking for in an ISP is a package that matches your
usage profile, a price that matches your budget, and a support team that
matches your experience and knowledge (or lack of it), and avoid the few
players who regularly do NOT deliver what the line itself is capable of.

And if you want fast speeds because you download a lot or play online
games, PAY for it. If you cheapskate with a big player offering rock
bottom prices, somewhere you will be disappointed with them.

I've actually preferred the 'commercially oriented' ISPs cos I get
fantastic response OUT of hours, and good enough inside them. Sometimes
I need to move gigabytes between machines. Takes HOURS, but at least if
I set the job going at midnight,. its done and dusted with no failures
or throttling by 8 a.m.

However I do pay more than many here. That's my choice.

Things to answer

- Do you want a one stop phone and broadband supplier, or are you happy
to rent a line through BT?
- What is your expected download data requirements in Gbyte/month.
- Does your exchange have any LLU suppliers in it?
- Are you technically savvy with broadband, or are you a bit more
inclined to say 'I just want it to work?'
- What do you expect to pay?
- Do you do peer to peer stuff? Online Games? Or just a bit of mail chat
and surfing?
- Do you want access to binary newsgroups, and if so how much did you
expect that to cost?
- Do you have your own router already?
- How do you currently and ideally want to get your e-mail?

And lastly. lots of stuff to read up at www.kitz.co.uk Read it. she's
got speed checkers, a not very representative vote for 'best ISP' and a
LOT of info on exchanges, and all the major players are there to compare
prices. Totally free site, no affiliation, and a fairly decent forum
section.

Train lines have been going down, as have London, Liverpool, and almost
any major town, ever since I can remember :-)

The OP may also wish to consider a provider that uses LLU at the
exchange in light of BT's announcement of price rises later this year

A lot of people decry them, but I have been very happy with Tiscali, now
borged into TalkTalk.

8032kbps sync on a 2.5km line with a 50m overhead drop, one pair shared
with neighbours. Rock solid. This is in Wallasey (over the river from
Liverpool), so with a .5km line you should be laughing.
