Broadband isp advice reqd - got a dacs on line

Broadband is coming next month. I live in a village. My line is fitted
with a dacs unit. I need a 512k 50:1 ISP.
I am considering Plusnet, Firefly, NDO and Nildram. I use binary
newsgroups a lot.
Any suggestions / advice welcome. (mentioned dacs because BT may need
a kick I guess)

Whichever ISP you use, BT Wholesale will automatically remove the DACS as
part of the ADSL order process - you don't need to do anything.

Forget NDO then, cos they dont (compared to some) have many newsgroups,
although they are reliable and normally customer friendly
Plusnet is ok but does have the odd prob with mail and news, and mixed
reactions to their customer support
Ive used firefly a little on a local rate dial up number and their news
groups seem very good, huge selection and v.good retention, they use
giganews no idea about customer support etc, (i did ask about their ADSL
in here but didnt get much of a response)
Nildram i have no experience with

Nildram also use Giganews along with an inhouse news server (mercury). Using
both together to fill in any gaps works very well.

Agreed, but (a) worth knowing if the poster is told it is working, but is
unable to get kit into sync with the exchange (happened to a friend, the
ISP contacted BT and it was sorted out, but took over a week longer and
his billing data was adjusted by the ISP - Eclipse), and (b) is likely
to be 'best effort' - if there is nowhere to move the DACS to then it
might be that BTW turns round to say 'sorry'... would depend on what
is available on the day, unfortunately... so cancelling a second line
might make it happen at a later time if it gets turned down now... PGM
