Anyone has information on Broadband/ dialup services that does not
require contracts.

How long are the usual contracts?

Which is a good plan?

Any general advice on what to consider when comparing the plans
available in London?

Thanks.

Not "without" contract, but with us you can cancel at 1 month's
notice.

But because of that we don't discount the install fee, so you have to
pay the full install fee. That said, it means if you are moving in to
a flat for only six months, say, or occupying an office for only eight
weeks, you can have our ADSL for that period and then cancel it with
no further penalty.

I've just signed up with virgin.net because they have no contract period.
I bet a LOT of people will get broadband through them because of this. It's
just too much of a pain for young people who either live in student houses,
or rent, to try and arrange broadband the week they arrive so that it'll
finish before they leave.
At the moment it's £24.99 p/m for 512k 50:1 with a 20Gb limit and free
install. the offer two filters and a modem for £9.99 too.
The 50:1 sucks a bit, but apart from that it's really good.

Also, after the first month you can downgrade to £17.99 but with a 3Gb
limit.

I've yet to see any effect of 50:1 contention. YMMV.
