I have been with plusnet, zen and nildram twice, btbroadband, i am
currently with nildram paying £35 per month for 8meg which i am lucky
to get 2mbp now they are cappy my giganews to 1meg download speed.

I have a block of eight static ip address but dont use them and i am
not paying them money to downgrade my account, what other providers are
any good at present, i am thinking of packing in broadband as they are
not what is promised i have seen speeds plummit and bandwidth reduced
over the years, and this unlimited crap what they keep preaching is a
very loose word indeed.

I agree totally.

BB, especially MaxDSL, is just a big con today.

I ''upgraded' to MaxDSL from 512K and only get 125K now. My ISP and/or
BT have said 'tough, take it or leave it'.
Oh, and no you cannot have your previous package neither.

You can download 250+Gb a month on a 1Mb connection. What's your
fucking problem?

BTW as you've got 8 fixws IP's your info is available to the world,
using Google isn't a good idea.

Why would a user using a 'personal' service need 8 static IP's and
shit-loads of download speed?

Pay business rates and get a proper fat pipe.

[snipped]

You're joking aren't you?

What you're not telling us is how far you are from the exchange etc. You
could be miles, hence 2mb connection.

Broadband isn't 'crap'. I have a 4mb connection that I'm very happy with
from F2S.

Just because YOU have issues, doesn't mean it's crap in general eh?

Pack in broadband and go back to dialup then. You'll be back within the day.

This is wrong on so many levels. Get a MAC and leave. Go to a provider
that'll offer you a 1 or 2mb connection.

They are half-right. The line is provided by BT. But that doesn't mean
that there's no hope.

Sometimes the speeds are limited by the ISP, and sometimes the ISP
doesn't ask BT the right questions.

Also, that old chestnut about 'you'll get the same answer from any
ISP' isn't strictly correct. It really depends on how good they are and
how much they value your business.

But, if you have a bad line, you have a bad line. There's nothing your
ISP can do about that, apart from nag BT.

Hi,

I hope to do that, but my ISP says that all other ISPs will say the same
as they all use BT (wel,, nearly all).

Are you saying that there is hope if I switch ISPs?

Thanks.

If he had 512 to start, then in theory, it could be put back again???

There should be no valid excuse for the rate, either sync or
throughput, going down when 'upgrading' to Max. Max is supposed to be
rate-adaptive to give the best possible sync rate. No way should this
ever be less than the fixed rate[1] that you had before the 'upgrade'.

[1] Unless your fixed rate service suffered from frequent loss of sync
because your line could not permanently sustain that rate.
