Broadband connection problems

I have BT Yahoo broadband, which I wish to connect to a laptop and PC.

It connects fine with the laptop (window XP), but with the PC (Window
98 SE) I cannot view any web pages, despite the 2 green screens in the
corner indicating I am connected. Although I am already connected it
requests my password before wrongly telling me I am using invalid
password. Alternatuvely, if I try to connect via the automatic
start-up box which appears when I log on, it says 'Verifying user name
and password' twice and then 'Launching Nethelp'

I have spent many hours on the phone to BT, but no-one can resolve
this problem. It is 'pinging' ok with the server. We have played
around endlessly with Dial-Up Networking and Network Configuration
and nothing has worked. BT suggest the problem is not theirs but is a
problem with IntExplorer or my windows 98.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem? or any suggestions as to
what it might be?

How is the W98-SE PC physically connected to the ADSL line. Do you have a
single ADSL modem which you unplug from the laptop, and connect to the PC
instead? Or are you trying to share a connection between 2 computers at the
same time using ICS or somesuch - or a router, even?

Are you sure that the PC is using the ADSL connection - and not trying to
connect to something different using its analog modem?
