Hi,
I have a Philips HFC171 Fax etc. working OK untill BT upgraded my line to
Broadband and I installed my Tesco modem and filters.

I have 2 other 'phones, when an incoming voice call rings them and one is
used to answer the fax continues to ring and then the answer system cuts in.
This of course ruins the conversation.

Taking the filter out on the fax stops this but the connection of the
computer is messed up and a no dial tone error appears on the screen.

Anyone had this sort of problem on broadband?
BT have checked the line and passed it ok.

Sounds like crap filters. Get some better ones. Better still, get a filtered
faceplate - removing the need for filters in individual sockets.

If you plug your fax into the line WITHOUT the filter and call your landline
from a mobile does the fax ring AT ALL?

If it doesn't, the presence of the filter is making up for deficient
extension wiring.
If I am right then your FAX is working correctly and is ringing to alert you
that it has answered the call and not detected fax tones therefore it is a
voice call.

Unfortunately it is not smart enough to know you have already picked up
another extension!

The solution? simply switch off the auto answer facility.
