Broadband ADSL Modem/Router - Quality wanted... but which one?

Evening all.

I've just ditched BTopenworld dial-up after over four years of crap service.

I've gone for Pipex ADSL 'wires only' service, but am stalling over which
ADSL router to go for.

I've got an Ethernet card in my PC, and so want to use this for broadband
connectivity. I also have a laptop, so I'd be happy with a four-port
Ethernet router/DSL modem combo unit.

I've always been a big fan of 3Com/US Robotics stuff, but they don't really
seem to have a strong influence on the ADSL market.

I'm tempted by NetGear and maybe D-Link, but the question is... which router
offers the fastest, most reliable connections?

Money is no limiter here. I think that 3Com have a new model coming soon
USR01906 (or summat!).

All recommendations for a new router welcomed. BTW, this is telephone-line
ADSL we're talking here, not cable.

Many thanks

Alan

You could do worse than look at the reviews (some a little out of date) at:

http://www.adslguide.org.uk

and then have a look through the hardware forums for opinion. As usual
you'll soon work out who can be believed and who is spouting rubbish.

I can only say that every bit of kit seems to have various firmware
problems of one sort or another, for every enthusiast you'll probably find
a nay sayer.

I bought a Draytek 2600, time will tell whether that was the best choice.
A lot of people seem happy with them, if you push the capabilities to the
limit you may find some rough edges and firmware fixes for these appear to
be a little slow.

This is probably true for other consumer kit too.

Apparently Cisco kit is rock solid, but expensive, and probably not suited
to a domestic installation on value-for-money grounds.

Pay your money, take your choice....
