I've always found Orange GPRS to be rather variable - speed fluctuates a
lot on a connection - will peak at about 40Kbps and then drop down to
8Kbps or something like that. That's on an infra-red connection from
laptop using an Orange SPV E100 as a modem. In comparison, Vodafon GPRS
seems to fly along.

That's the impression I got last year in Madrid. From what I've
experienced in the UK, O2 GPRS is slower than Orange (on the work XDA II
anyway).
