British ADSL modem in the US?

Hello... I have a slightly ignorant question:

I have a Speedtouch 300 ADSL modem, which I used with a BT phone line
in the UK. Can I expect this to work in the USA, if I get a phone
socket adaptor, or would I need to get a new modem and filters?

thanks,
Matthew.

It might depend on what type of broadband service you go for - much of it
(AFAIK) is via cable, so you`d need a cable modem rather than an adsl
modem - they`re two different technologies.

US DSL services use PPPoE, BT used PPPoA, but now can handle both.
Some modems can handle both, some can't.
You need to find out if yours can do PPPoE.

Martin

Thanks, I just looked at the Speedtouch website, and it claims the
modem can do PPPoA and PPPoE.

Are the filters likely to work in the US (with suitable plug
adaptors), or would they filter out the wrong range of frequencies?

To be honest, the convertors for the filters would probably cost as much
as american filters themselves, so it might be best to invest in
American filters just in case

The Speedtouch 330 should work fine in the USA - however, you may need
different drivers than you would use here in the UK.

Sunil
