Briding two wireless routers

A friend has upgraded his router to a ADSL2+ compatible one to get the most
out of his connection. He now has a Netgrear DG384G which works great.

Is there a way of using his old Speedtouch 580 as a wireless bridge/repeater
i.e. use the speedtouch downstairs with hardwire connections to a number of
consoles and then get it to wirelessly connect to the DG384?

All wireless routers I know of can only function as an access point (at
least with standard firmware), in which case the answer is no.
