Borrow test a 900 mhz setup in Montgomery county, VA?

I have need to communicate between two buildings in the hills (trees,
no cable path), but I don't want to spend a grand on 900 mhz equipment
only to find out that it can't make the 1000 feet distance through
trees (woods).

Can anyone help me out here?
