Boost Speed Now

As someone who can still remember the 'Turbo Boost' button on my old
486DX50, I was quietly amused to see that my Pipex 250k service includes a
'Boost Speed Now' button. Two quid for ten days worth of 512k (seven days if
you're on 150k).

Hope it's linked to a big red gif for the full Turbo experience.

Someone at Pipex has a sense of humour. Nice one :-)
Do you get a Meg if you press it twice?

Interesting question. Pretty sure the answer is no

When you regrade upwards from 512k, is there a physical change anywhere
along the line or is it just the resetting of soft limits within the BT
network?

Given that my router reports my 250k line as 576/288, it's obvious that
Pipex are doing the traffic throttling within their own network. I just
wondered where it happens for products > 512k.

How are your d/s speeds today? The installation you and I had a thread on here
about 10 days ago is now measuring 200-215k on the ADSL Guide speed
checker.

The Pipex speed checker indicates 260k !

I did ask on here how Pipex throttle the speed on the 250/150k services,
but no responses.

Pipex check: 222k.
adslguide: 208k actual

I'm very happy with it.

Given the boost capability, it would seem to be traffic-shaping kit within
their network. I've seen short spikes over 250k so I presume it's doing some
real time averaging.

I have noticed that downloads seem to have little speed surges,
so I think you're right.

Interesting about the 'boost' button, I'll find it and show them
