bogus IP address assigned to laptop

i have windows xp sp2 installed on my machine, and its up-to-date with
updates etc.

so i use my laptop at work and at home. at work i have no dramas connecting
to our wireless network using 192.168.19.1 for the DNS, at home i run on
192.168.2.1 and i mostly have to repair my connection once or twice and it
sometimes has to be manually configured to get it to work, which is starting
to get annoying since i then have to undo it when i go to work the next day.

at home i have a belkin wireless router

It all used to work fine when we ran the same loop at work, but since they
upgraded at work to a firebox with a different DNS i've had issues at home.
Sometimes it gives me a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx address, i forget what the rest of
the numbers are, which has nothing to do with either of them!?

Try the Alternate Configuration. The wireless manager will look for the
first configuration (the office for ex.) and when it doesn't find it
and times out, switch over to the Alternate Configuration (home for
ex.). If you find the little wait for it to time out annoying, use a
third-party network manager.
