I've heard that blueyonder are usin a spam filtering system that blocks
emails to their users, and you don't have a say on who they block, and
whether you want this filterin to interfere with your email turned on or
off...

Has anyone informed the Register of this 'We Rule The Intanet' stance,
yet? )

Don't know where you got your info from, but looking on the webmail site,
you can define the level of spam filtering, even to the point of switching
it off. You have to option to Delete spam automatically, tag the subject
header, or tag the message header.

I'm more surprised they've only just got round to it. I would have
though that most of the ISPs in the UK would already be using one, or
more, of the spam blocking lists.

I shud have pointed out that, it's blockin legitimate emails to user's,
complaints from users are bein met with that 'they' need to contact
Spamhaus to get whoever has bin put on the list removed, themselves.

That's the way spam lists work I'm afraid. Whilst there are service
providers who are spam friendly, and who refuse to do anything about the
problem, then legitimate users are going to get caught in the crossfire.

It looks like BY have realised, as have a lot of others, that the spam
problem is now serious enough that steps have to be taken to protect
their network.

This isn't the place for the discussion though - see

Too true. Blocking lists are a very poor way to trap spam. Most spam
does not come from real addresses and a lot of spam senders use other
peoples addresses.

The Spamhaus list is used to check the actual sending IP address - not a
(probably faked) sending email address. So that last bit really doesn't
apply. I use the Spamhaus lists myself and find them invaluable.
However, for an ISP to use it and not have the option to turn it
off...well, that is a pain.

It is true, Blueyonder now uses Spamhaus, irregardless of the
spam-settings defined for individual users. BY customers are irate that
their mails from Yahoo are persistantly blocked and there is nothing
they can do about it. Blueyonder's stance is that it is Yahoo's problem
and there is nothing they will do to change the situation.
