My brother in law has just been fitted with the Blueyonder 512K system, his
download speeds are normal but his upload speed is reporting around 100K.
This seems kind of low, he is in East Kilbride, is the normal for 512k
service? I am on BTYBB so not familiar with the cable.

The max upload speed on Blueyonder's 512K service is 16k/sec (also expressed
as 128K)

This compares to the upload speed on most ADSL services of 32k/sec (also
expressed as 256K)

Regards
Sunil

I thought with cable modems you could upload and download at the same
speeds?

I think I remember someone on ntl or telewst having a 1mb service
being able to upload and download at the same rates?

I've never heard of that on NTL: AFAIK, it's always been an asymmetric
service.

Upload speeds are often run at a quarter or less of download: NTL is
600/128, and my brother -- in Canada -- has a 1MB/128 service. (And
yes, I'm sure of those figures: it struck me as a really vicious
download/upload ratio....)

Only BT SHDSL (or a leased line) offers symmetric download and upload
rates, for a high price, £165/month for the IPStream Symmetric 500.
Generally, only people hosting web sites need high upload speeds and
Telewest Blueyonder T&C forbid public web sites on cable modems.

Telewest Blueyonder offers three cable modem services:

512K down, 128K up - £25/month
1M down, 256K up - £35/month
2M down, 256K up - £50/month

Prices are £4.99/month extra if you don't have television or TV as well.
