Hi All,

Have Tried the XP version, but can't purchase as money is
extra tight. Want to go back to Me until then. I Get a Blue
Screen at startup which states:

An Exception 0E has occurred at 0028:C006115D in VxD
vnetbios (01) + 00000B8D. This was called from 0028:C023F58B
in VxD vmm (0C) + 0000058B. It may be possible to continue
normally.

Then the options "Press any key to continue" or "Press
CTL-ALT-DEL to restart".

I can use the network ok, BUT this is very unnerving.
Please help me find a way to remedy this situation.
Temporarily back with WXP corp for now.

Machine stats : Processor=AMD Athlon XP @ 1.4 GHZ, 768MB
RAM, Giga-Byte 7zxe mainboard, turtle beach santacruz audio,
3com 3c900 nic, ati 700- radeon video, dvd and cd by teac.

Any haelp appreciated!!!

In Romans 1 there are qualities of Unregenerate man listed
which describe him in the last days.
Is your quality found on this list??

With 768MB of RAM you're going to have problem such as you're seeing
unless you limit the amount of memory used for the virtual cache. Since
you can't boot to Win Me you will need either to boot to DOS and locate
and system.ini from a DOS prompt or alternatively temporarily remove one
of your RAM chips so as to be able to boot into Win Me and edit system.ini
from there.

Win Me, like previous Win 9x operating systems can handle up to 2GB of RAM
(although often there are problems with greater than 1GB) however if you
have more than 512MB it is essential to limit the virtual cache to no more
than 512MB since if you allow the cache to exceed 512MB this will mean
that you run out of upper memory addresses and get Out of Memory errors.:
To limit vcache, open system.ini and add the lines
[VCache]
MaxFileCache=512000
Note that this will still mean that all memory is available to
applications but is simply limiting the amount used as virtual cache
memory See KB 253912 - ""Out of Memory" Error Messages with Large
Amounts of RAM Installed" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=253912).

See also:
MS KB 296773 - "Computer May Not Hibernate with More Than 192 MB of
Memory" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=296773). This makes reference
to an updated file vmm.vxd. Contact Microsoft, explain the problem, and
mention 296773 and you should be given details of how to obtain the patch
and the password of the day. Note that there should be no support charge
for this call other than for any telecom charges incurred in ringing
Microsoft.

MS KB 304943 - "Computer May Reboot Continuously with More Than 1.5 GB of
RAM" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=304943).
