I have a problem with getting a black screen with total
freeze up on my HP Pavillion that I installed a PCI NIC
card on that's running Win98SE. I know it's something
related to the NIC card and possibly the display adapter.
I have never had this problem when I did not have somthing
connected to the NIC card. It always happens when there's
a transfer happening through the NIC card.

I don't wish to update the display adpater because I did
that once and it had some kind of conflict with Norton AV
and my comp display went into safe mode and I did not know
how to correct the problem. I actually reformatted the
HDD and used the system recovery disk with the old driver
to get rid of the problem.

Anyone having black screen freeze up like me?

Download and install the latest Win98SE driver program for the NIC.

If that doesn't solve the problem, un-install the NIC in Device
Manager, shut the computer down, move the NIC to a different slot, and
let Win98SE re-install it.
