BitTorrent + Linksys router = hang

I've been trying to get BitTorrent-3.3 to work through my Linksys
BESFR11. It will run for a few minutes and then the router hangs.
Although the lights keep blinking, the bits stop flowing. I can't
browse to the internet or to the router management port. The only fix
seems to be to power-cycle the router. The problem exists with
BitTorrent on Linux or Windoze.

I removed the router from the network and it works great. Anyone else
seen this? Any experiece with BitTorrent and other routers?
Alan

Check firmware date, get latest from Linksys site and install.
I got constant "server connection closed" messages when trying to post
to Usenet from Free Agent through BESFR11 router. Thought problem was
ISP, but updating router firmware solved it.

Thanks. I found out that if the router hangs while running Bittorrent,
and I reset it while leaving Bittorrent running, Bittorrent will
resume and the router won't hang again until I start a new Bittorent
session.

I am having this exact problem. I believe that it is due to the sheer
number of TCP connections and they start to overwhelm the router. I
have the same router and tried upgrading the firmware to fix the
problem, but it didn't work.

Anyone know if Netgear or D-Link routers have this issue? I have seen
it exhibited on another model of Linksys router as well.

Yeah. Having that many masqueraded connections established at once
will slow down any equipment. I have a 700MHz (2x350) dual-PII router
that barely breaks a sweat under normal conditions that can be brought
to its knees by a single bittorrent session.

To my knowledge, the only way to fix this is to get a faster router.

I had that problem until a few days ago, when I forwarded the BitTorrent
ports. Doing that will increase download speed much.

The ports to forward are 6881-6889

Enjoy.

I just bought a Netgear WGR614. It seems to work fine with appropriate
ports forwarded.

I'm also using a linksys router.. WRT54G, and it seems to work fine with
bittorrent, so long as I don't try to do too many things at once.. But yeah,
if I make too many connections, it will 'hang', but not completely.. it just
seems to fail on the internet side.. I just have to log into the router and
disconnect/reconnect from the net for it to work again.
