Hi all.

Regarding this "Can't change between 512 and 1M because you've got a
managed conversion".

I'm (hopefully!) having a Managed Conversion from HH to Wires Only with
Plusnet.

From...

http://www.adslguide.org/newsarchive.asp?item=1396

The regrades affected are mainly the ability to regrade between the Home
and Office product ranges, and also the ability to finally move between
Engineer installed products and the 'wires-only' services. This move to
make regrades simpler is well overdue, and should result in under 30
minutes of outage while the regrade is done, this is considerably better
than the days or weeks that a full cease and provide can take currently.
The fees for regrades remain the same at £35+VAT, though as with the
activation fees service providers are free to run special promotions.

For people regrading to a wires-only product from an engineer installed
product, BT Wholesale will send out a padded envelope for the return of
the ADSL hardware. The ADSL master socket faceplate is retained by the
user, meaning that microfilters are not required.

So because I'm having a managed conversion, will I get the ADSL faceplate,
or is the engineer only there to take away the HH box?

Am I actually having an engineer installed product at all, or is it purely
wires only, even though there's an engineer there?

Ta,

Pete.

The engineer will remove the HH box and replace it with a "normal" (not
ADSL) faceplate

You are having a "wires only" installation even though there will physically
be a engineer present for the "conversion"

Regarding this "Can't change between 512 and 1M because you've got a
managed conversion". - having an HH-->ADSL conversion isn't a problem if you
want to go to 1MB later....

The problem currently occurs if you have an "engineer install" (which is
where the engineer gives you a modem as well) - very rare these days as its
much more expensive than "wires only" *but* it used to be the only way when
ADSL was 1st launched... - it affects older users not you..

Regards
Sunil

OK.

Anyone know if Clarity does sale or return ;-)

If they're coming Thursday, I'll need some filters until the filters
arrive with the router, which will be ordered as soon as ADSL is
confirmed.

I could buy a normal filter, but I'd prefer something a little more
streamlined, given the sate of the cables behind my desk.

People see it and say "Jesus, what's that!!?", just because I have 12
double sockets on a board (very tastefully done mind!), giving a total of
24 sockets. The top 12 are permanently powered, the bottom 12 are switched
via an illuminated switch. The router is also attached to the board! The
number of wall-warts/wall-bricks you need is astonishing really!

Thanks for the info,

Pete.

Afraid not - well they do but they say they will charge you a restocking
fee... and Clarity can take a week or two to deliver a filter.

Until an ADSL modem/router is actually being used on the line, you don't
need a filter.

That was going to be my next question ;-)

If I don't have a router, do I need a filter. Obviously not, so that's
great!

Soon as it's confirmed as working, I'm going to get straight onto someone
and get the router ordered.

Hope it comes quickly. I've only got a 33.6k modem to connect with!

Pete.
