Hi

Is it possible to bind two ADSL connections together to create a joint
upload speed which should approach that of SDSL?

I know of the Firebrick, but it's way too expensive.

Thanks

You want a decent upload speed ? You can't do that with ADSL. It's Asymmetric
DSL

Entanet (I think) still offer bonding although its nowhere near as
useful as it once was - unless of course both lines sync at the same
speed or have the same BRAS profile.

In short yes it is possible but it is more complex with the advent of
adslmax.

Just found out that I need
BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) from the ADSL provider(s).Forget it.

Who told you that? BGP on an ADSL connection - ROFL :-D

Entanet use/used MLPPP while AAISP (Firebrick) used a different method
- can't remember what it was now.

You can bond 2 channels but NO WAY will that give you an "upload speed which
should approach that of SDSL".

Is this a load of gonads then?

<http://aaisp.net.uk/aa/aaisp/multiline.html>

Bonded uplink
An ADSL line normally allows up to 400Kb/s or 800Kb/s of uplink (i.e.
information from your network to the internet). The max IP rate is up
to 750Kb/s. Using a FireBrick 105 you can make use of 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6
ADSL lines to carry traffic from your network at up to 4.5Mb/s. Our
network allows you to send packets from your block of IPs via any of
your lines. You can use multiple lines (as above) to provide both
fallback and bonded uplink offering 500Kb/s on two lines. Using the
profiles feature on the FireBrick you can monitor each line and fall
back to fewer lines if there is a problem.

How do you work that out? Standard 'home' ADSL line does 400kb/s upload.
Two will give 800kb/s (near enough) which certainly *approaches* that of
a 1Mb/s SDSL connection (I know you can get faster, but there are 1Mb/s
services).

If you compare with Premium ADSL, you get twice the upload speed, i.e.
1600kb/s or 1.6 Mb/s, which is well within the realms of SDSL.

You can get SDSL upload speeds with a single ADSL line.

SDSL 250.
