I had this installed on a PC with W98SE and it worked fine. Trying to install it
on a PC with XP the other day proved unsuccessful.

Binatone's site has no record of it any more. Plusnet's site has a link to
drivers but it's dead. Googling also provided dead ends too.

Any advice ?

Graham

Buy a router. I know that sounds a bit curt and flippant.

I have one. This is just a backup / spare. It does come in handy sometimes.

That means another purchase ! This is a perfectly servicable USB modem I have
here ! Works fine.

perhaps we have differing definitions of "This is a perfectly servicable USB
modem I have
here ! Works fine.",
maybe install win98 on each pc, problem solved! ;-)

Thank you kindly.

The Rev A driver package which appears to be the same as the CD I have installed
OK but only after I took a new strategy with installation.

Half way through installing, Windows recognises the modem and prompts one to let
it do its stuff and it seems you have to allow BOTH that and the original
installer to do their job side by side ! Very odd.

Interestingly the Binatone modem only syncs at 5600kbps wheras my Origo router
syncs at 8128. Fine as a fallback of course.

There were 2 versions of this modem IIRC. One with two status lights and
one with three.

AFAIK the one with two will not install on XP at all.

The one with the 3 lights could be installed under XP Service Pack 1 but
not XP Service Pack 2 AFAIK.

Revert back to SP1, install the modem drivers and then upgrade.

Failing that, there was a dodgy workaround IIRC. It involved plugging
the modem in and allowing the Windows Hardware Wizard to open. Leave
that window there and then run the installation CD. Once the CD
installation has completed finish the Windows Hardware Wizard... That's
from memory so it might not be 100% accurate.

Alternatively, buy another modem/router (which is likely to be a lot
easier). Plenty of cheap stuff here:
