big upgrade, please review and comment...

going from existing nt4/exchange5.5 to server 2003/exchange 2003





Step 1 - Setup Server01

a) Install Windows NT 4.0 server as a BDC

b) Promote to PDC

c) Demote existing PDC to BDC

d) upgrade to Windows 2003 Server with Active Directory and DNS





Step 2 - setup server02
a) Install Windows 2003 Server

b) Install Active directory and join existing domain.

c) Reboot server

d) Transfer all 5 FSMO role from Server01 to server02





Step 3 - Demote Server01 to member server

a) remove from domain

b) unplug network connection

c) Reformat HDD and install Windows 2003 Server as Server01

d) Install Active Directory, DNS and join existing domain

e) Transfer all 5 FSMO role from Server02 back to server01



this is just the domain/server portion. assuming this looks good, we will
tackle exchange in a week or 2. please make any comments you can think of.
