Better wireless signal?

I have laptop downstairs that picks up the internet wirelessly from
upstairs. However, at times the signal seems poor and wont download pages
properly. Is there another piece of equipment I could buy for downstairs
that would ensure a better signal?

Yeah, a long RJ45 lead and ditch the wireless........ No seriously, there
are a range of decent antennas out there that can make a difference. It's
unusual in a common home to have that problem. Are you sure 'at times' there
is not interference from other local routers/videosenders etc messing you
over? It may be worth switching channels and eliminating that possibility -
unless you live in a thick stone house with concrete reinforced floors :-)
