I've had enough of terrible Netgear products, I'm switching brands and will
never again buy a Netgear product. Anyone have any recommendations to
replace my DG834GT? Linksys? D-Link? US Robotics?

Netgear, yep, been there, never again...
I bought Draytek Vigor 2600VG (on Ebay!), never touched it in two years
except to update the firmware with new VoIP version. It is an 'office
quality' kit, hence NOT cheap, but it paid for it self in saved time and
hair loss ;-)
The only thing possibly better - Cisco - is far more expensive.
Regards,
Martin

Draytek 2600 or 2900 series. You get what U pay 4. Sheer quality, and
excellent tech support

I had a Vigor 2600 for a year or so until it was killed by lightning. The
configuration is a bit 'techie' but it worked well. Bought a DG834GT
instead and have clearly had a similar experience to you, so yes, I would go
back to Vigor as well next time.

One tip with the DG834GT. Don't use the idle timeout setting (ie set it to
0) The router does not recover properly afterwards, which is a an indication
of the underlying problems. Also, Windows XP came up with a new driver
download for the WG511 card that I use with it. This does not appear to tie
in with the downloads from the Netgear site, but I think that has improved
things as well.

Whereas I have had 3 flawless Netgear routers (DG814, DG824M and currently
DG834G) and would highly recommend them to anyone who has not a pressing
business need for something better (basically most home users!)

DG834G just runs for months on end with no attention!

The correct answer depends entirely upon what you want from the router.

Do you want wireless? How many ethernet ports do you need?

How about bridging or other features?

Are you using normal ADSL or an LLU ADSL2 variant?

Unfortunately they appear to be unavailable now (not unless it's old
stock) so it's the GT for anybody who goes looking

Duggie, I can't help responding, as I've fitted loads of Netgear DG834G
units and use two of them myself. They are rock solid. So I can only
assume the fault is with the user or you've been unlucky with a GT. The
DG834G is nothing short of excellent in use. Can't speak for the GT model,
but please don't tar everything with the same brush. Netgear products are
not terrible, as you are suggesting.....

The DG834G is an excellent wireless modem/router.

Tony

Load of rubbish,

I'm still taking regular delivery of DG834G models from my local supplier
and they are still availlable online too.
