What do people reckon is the BEST ADSL Router with built in Modem and WiFi.
It if for home use running a network of 6 computers all running Windows XP.
One of my sons does a lot of P2P and my current Linksys WAG54G (latest
firmware) keeps hanging needing a power off and on again. I have no need of
VOIP ports or VPN - money no object!

I have a WAG54G with the exact same problem - it's a known bug and
Linksys should issue an RMA.

I'm also looking for a wireless router/modem and so far it's between
Draytek (2600G) and Zyxel (660HW).

So far the Zyxel is shading it because it's cheaper, seems to have just
as solid a reputation, supports ADSL and ADSL2+ when they're available
and just seems an all round well regarded piece of kit.

cheers,
Paul

Cheap....Netgear DG834 & install the latest firmware
Dear......Draytek 2600

I have had sterling service from both of those, but you may beat your
problem by getting your son to tweak the setting on his P2P program to
cut down on the maximum simultaneous connections as that can cause the
problem you describe, to many connections, the routing table gets to big
& bang the router either locks up or spontaneously reboots....

I run a BT 2100 Voyager with 4 wired network ports and wifi. Generally
it has the main desktop and an old desktop ethernetted to it, but also
has two laptops a Pocket PC and ocasionally (when friends come) any
other number of laptops wifi connected to it.

The only power cycling I have _ever_ done has been to do with the pc's
hanging up, I've never had to reset the modem.

This all runs on NTL Freedom 512 ADSL line.

I'm happy to say I am greatly pleased with BT and NTL as I haven't had
problems, though I now wish I had gone elsewhere for the ADSL as NTL
Freedom can't, at the moment, be upgraded for speed, though the line
tests as capable for 2meg. Only three months to run before it's
worth changing.
