A newbie question!. What are the relative advantages of sharing an ADSL
internet line (between 2 PCs)using either of these two methods.
1. Add a second Ethernet card to the PC currently wired to the ADSL modem
and using W98's Internet sharing program, or,
2. Buy a router (e.g DLink DI-604).

With either method, is it possible to share PC resources also?
Thanks,
Gord.

Using method number 1, the computer that has the modem attached would have to be running in order for the second computer to access the internet.
The second method, using a DLink DI-604 router (I use this model myself), each computer has access to the internet independently of the other.
As for sharing "resources", when two or more computers are "networked", they can share files and printers. HTH

OK Dan. Now my ISP (big name in Ottawa) will not get involved with any help
on Internet sharing; that would open a big can of worms, they say.
Therefore, I presume that if I use the router to service 2 PCs, I need to
load the ISP software into the second PC.
Also what is involved in installing the S/W for the DI-604?

softweare for the router need only be installed on one system ...the other
just needs to get it's IP from the routers DHCP service.

Hi Gord,
Do you already have these two computers networked? If not, here is a link to a site with tons of information.
http://www.homenethelp.com/web/howto/index.asp
If you do have the network up and running, installing the DI-604 router is very simple. The router comes with a Quick Installation Guide that will take you, step by step, through the entire proccess. It really is easier than it looks.
There really isn't any software to instal, unless you need to install drivers for your NIC's.
Hope this, along with the info from Haggis and David, answers your questions. If not, post back with more, and we'll try to answer.
