It depends where you live, how thick the walls are and what material. For a
normal house you will not need a high gain antenna unless you want to use a
neighbours connection from a few streets away.
They all do much the same thing. I have a belkin PCI card with small
antenna and that is fine across 3 floors and through a few brick walls as
the router is in a cupboard out of the way.
You don't need high gain aerials as normal cards will cover about 800ft in
the clear and around 80 feet through walls and floors quite easily.
Every computer shop sells them, so a phone book, look around local shops or
google are the best places to look.
