Best outside WIFI aerial

Folks

I live in a granite cornish barn and the wifi signal is poor - too many
beams, walls etc.
Also we have a belkin WAP which I believe aint the best. We are using
safecom cards which are very good though.

Will decent aerial(s) get round this poor reception? I also need to
propogate the signal to our annexe which about 40 feet from the main
building.

I thought an outside aerial for the access point and enhanced aerials for
the cards might do it.

Any advice on aerials? Do I need to ditch the belkin unit?

TIA -Adam

It is difficult to offer much advice without knowing more about the relative
locations of the AP, clients, and obstructions. For example, if everything
is at roughly the same height[1] and you need coverage in all horizontal
directions from the AP (or aerial site) then replacing the AP's aerial(s)
with high gain omnidirectional one(s) is likely to help.

[1] What really matters in this example is the angle of elevation between
the aerials.

If the Belkin hasn't got antennas that screw into a socket, yes. An
external antenna will solve the problems of reaching the annex but may
not solve the issue with the computers if the Safecom cards are
USB/PCMCIA without an external antenna.

Why not use something like the Part # F5D7130uk in range extgender mode,
assuming you have power.

David

I already have this WAP, but cant find anything in the settings about
"range extender mode".
How do I turn this on?
