Belkin wireless desktop card

Hi,
im having problems with my wireless belkin card, the instructions tell you
to install the software on the disc first then insert the card into the pc
and let windows find the new hardware and do the rest. Unfortunately it
hasn't been as simple as that as windows is unable to complete the
installation of the hardware as it keeps trying to commect to find suitable
software to install the new hardware, which it shouldn't have to do.
can anyone HELP!
