Hi All,
Got a friend with Virgin internet (exNTL) via a cable modem. Works
fine but having problems with a Belkin wireless router. Connecting
this gives about 4 minutes of active internet, after which all
activity ceases - it stops transmitting wirelessly, and a wired
connection to the router loses internet access, too.
I'm thinking a faulty unit at the moment, but wondered if anyone had
come across any firmware issues etc with these units?
Ric

Are you absolutely sure that this isn't a software issue? I ran into a
very similar problem with a Zonealarm remnant a few weeks ago.

It's a Belkin. They're shite. I gave up after having 3 die in as many
months. Get a Netgear one.

That sounds unusual. I'd suspect a fault, though it's worth checking the
usual things: is your firmware out of date, are you blocking access to the
router configuration/firmware update features from outside your network, etc.

FWIW, having recently set up a home network with various wireless
networking stuff from Belkin, I will not go near their stuff again. It
seems to be hopelessly unreliable, and needlessly difficult to configure.
Their previously good reputation in my household (for other types of
equipment) is now mud.

I think the best suggestion I heard from their tech support people was to
set our entire network to WEP encryption (i.e., no security at all), just
because the wireless range extender we wanted to use to access our
networked printer couldn't support WPA!

Cheers,
Chris

I am coming to the same conclusion after trawling t'interweb. Going
to see if Belkin will replace under warranty (I actually bought it 2nd
hand) and otherwise toss in the bin. It's definitely a hardware
issue.

You'll have little problem in getting them to replace it under
warranty. Downside is that what they'll send isn't necessarily going to
be any better.

Just as an aside, it's only their Routers that are shite. I've never
had a problem with their USB or PCI Wifi cards.
