Belkin Router Question

I purchased a 4-Port DSL Gateway Router (F5D5231-4). According to the
manual, "If you have a modem with both Ethernet and USB, and are using
the USB connection at this time, you will be instructed to use the RJ45
Ethernet port during the installation procedure." The problem is, at no
time during the installation procedure am I specifically instructed to
start using the Ethernet port. Am I supposed to do so when I have to
plug the loose end of the cable I unplugged from the modem (which was a
USB cable) into the back of the Router? That would mean that I would to
use the Ethernet cable instead, since the USB cable doesn't fit into the
back of the Routher. If so, what do I do with the USB cable, or will I
no longer be using it?

Right, the USB cable is no longer needed. You should have anRJ45
connection from your modem into the WAN port on your router. Then
unless your router is wireless, you run RJ45 cables from the other
ports on your router to each of your PCs. The only problem you might
run into is if your pC doesn't have an ethernet card. In that case, you
can pick them up fairly inexpesnively.

You do realize that router has no USB sockets, right? It only connects via an
RJ45 UETP cable.

So just unplug the USB cable you originally used between the modem and your
computer, throw the cable away, then connect the router to the modem with the
CAT5 cable that was included with the router. At that point you can bravely
run Belkin's CD and hope it somehow manages to get you on line, or you can
learn how to properly configure the router and computers and use the CD for a
coaster.
