belkin install nightmare!

just purchased a belkin router and a pre-n network card
installed router and software no probs

then installed the pre-n network card in kids pc upstairs and this is where
it all goes pairshaped

running the software on cd gets as far as installing the client program then
pops up a error message saying no adapter found.

have uninstalled and reinstalled many times with same result, tried every
available pci slot.

the new hardware found message pops up and installs drivers no problems but
it will not install the client program.

in between reinstalls the mouse freezes which just adds to the nightmare

been on belkins site and used the latest install pack

cant find anything on any forums mentioning my exact problem

its as if xp is refusing to install, I will be ringing belkin tomorrow but
ive heard there pretty useless

for the record both pcs running xp sp2 all firewalls dropped(but i cant get
to any config screen yet so this wouldnt matter), windows zero config
disabled in services
on recommendation, dont know if this would make any difference anyway.

so to sum up,

network card detected,drivers install ok
get as far as installing the little connection program that resides in
system tray and then the "no adapter found"
message.

any help would be a big relief

thnx in advance

No problems with my Belkin set up (XP & Win98SE on 3 x Desktops & 1 x
Laptop) but you must install the software first, powerdown and then install
the hardware. As a general rule I don't 'read the manual', and like you
could not get the cards working, Read the Manual, uninstalled everything I
had previously installed, removed the card .... and then followed the
instructions (to the word) and it worked with few problems since.

HTH

Have you got Norton or other antivirus software running?

I had a problem with installation onto an XP setup - turned off the
antivirus and it installed flawlessly.

Good luck
