Hi

I have a problem with my Belkin ADSL/Wireless 54G router which has plagued
me for some time.

The ADSL modem should connect automatically when it detects traffic not
destined for the local network, and indeed sometimes it does!

However, invariably it doesn't connect automatically and in order to connect
to the internet I have to start the connection manually by going onto the
web based admin page and clicking connect. A real pain!

Strangely I find that WindowsXP machines are most sucessful at making the
modem connect whilst a Win98 machine is very unreliable and my XBOX never
starts the connection, which is really annoying as I always have to start a
PC to connect to XBOX live.

It seems to make no difference as to whether a client connects via a wired
or wireless connection and I have the latest firmware on the router.

Anyone else experience this? Belkin support don't seem to have!

Jonathan

Yes - I had exactly the same problem. I contacted Belkin support, and
they recommended I set the Idle Timeout to 0 (on the PPPoA screen).

I tried it, and it 'solved' the problem (at least it's much better
than it was).

I suspect that it may just be masking the problem rather than solving
it - but what the heck - it works!
