1st post. Please can anyone help. I have installed a Belkin 54g WAP part #
F5D7130uk on my home LAN. Everything connects to a D-Link DSL504 switch /
dsl modem / router which has 4 x 100 ports on it.

The first card I installed on my Compaq Armada M700 running Windows XP Pro
laptop was an 802.11b Wireless Notebook Network Card Belkin Part # F5D6020.
This worked but only up to a range of 20 to 30 feet. My house is a modern
bungalow with plasterboard walls. I walked outside and could only get 20 to
30 feet range still. I switched off the DECT phones and the One For All
Wireless Audio/Video Sender SV-1710 which runs on 2.4 GHz. I could still
only get 20 to 30 feet.

I have upgraded to Belkin 802.11g Wireless Notebook Network Card Part #
F5D7010. Still only 20 to 30 feet!

I live in a housing estate. There are no mobile phone transmitters nearby.
There are no radio hams, etc.

Can anyone offer any help please?

tia

Have you tried putting the WAP in the loft? Or gone up there with the
laptop?

Is the WAP sited near power cables or pipework running through the
wall?

It could be any number of things....

Try changing channels on your laptop's card setup and see if that makes any
difference.

I have downloaded the latest updates from MS for XP Pro. I have installed
the latest driver from Belkin tech support.

I have sited the WAP as high as possible (almost ceiling height). I have
slowed the laptop card down to 1Mb. I have selected the best channel and
still only 35 feet!

Any other tips gratefully accepted.

No video senders locally. When I switch mine off no better. Also when I
switch off DECT no difference.

I have contacted Belkin and they are focusing on the PCMCIA cardbus
controller.

Thanks
