Belkin F5D700UK can't detect network

Apologies, first, if this has been answered before. I've spent several
days looking for a solution, and haven't been able to find anything
which quite relates to my problem.

I have a Belkin F5D700UK Wireless Network card installed on a machine
running Windows 98 SE. I'm trying to connect to a Netgear Router,
which in turn is connected to an NTL broadband modem, but my card
can't detect the network at all. My girlfriend's PC has the same
set-up, but detected the network first time, and is working like a
dream.

I've tried:

1. Copying her network settings;
2. Moving my machine to the same location as hers, in case it was a
problem with interference or positioning;
3. Removing and re-installing the card;
4. Removing and re-installing TCP-IP (simple method).

I've pinged the network card, and get a 10050 error. The same happens
when I ping anything, basically.

Before I get involved in *fully* uninstalling TCP-IP (the complicated
process described on the Microsoft website) does anyone have any
suggestions for things I might try?

Humbly yours,

Ray.

Make sure you are using the latest drivers (try the US ones as well - they
will work in the UK)
Check everything is set for the same channel
Check that it is set for infrastructure mode as you are using a wireless
router
Check the SSID name is identical
Try disabling all encrytion and see if it works then
Call Belkin tech support on 00800 22355460 (its freephone and it is 00800
not 0800) and talk it through with them

Regards
Sunil

I had a similar problem with the same card; make sure you've removed any
other network card in your machine (including disabling on-board
ethernet). If that doesn't work, try upgrading the firmware. If that
doesn't work, it's faulty - take it back.

I had a similar problem with mine. I managed to sort it by first
downloading the latest drivers and secondly playing with the Channel ID
of the access point. This seemed to fix the problem and the Belkin Card
now connects every time (well sort of - every now and then it fails to
connect, and I have to disable and reenable the radio to connect again!)

Cheers,
Taz.
