Beaconing SMC routers

I have a SMC 7004VWBR I assume it beacons I'm wondering if there's a way to
turn off this feature so (ESSID) so only people with the correct SSID can
connect to it.

Try turning off "broadcast SSID" in the wireless section of the router
setup.

There is no "broadcase SSID" option that you have mentioned

I have the 7004 VWBR with the latest firmware. Go to 'Advanced Setup -
Wireless - Channel and SSID - and you now have 5 options - SSID,
Transmission Rate, Basic Rate, Channel and "Broadcast SSID". Make sure
Broadcast SSID is set to Disable. If you can't find it, you may not have the
latest firmware, or a different part no. Mine is 750.9821. Check the number
on your router. Good luck.
