BB Availability Check

Prior to going onto Max8 on 07 June all the line checkers suggested I could
get between 4.5 and 5Mb download. However, now that I am on Max8 (with
Eclipse) the line checkers quote "Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our
initial test on your line indicates that your line should be able to have an
ADSL broadband service that provides a line rate up to 2Mbps.
Our test also indicates that your line should be able to support a potential
ADSL Max broadband line rate of 2Mbps or greater.all say up to 2Mb".

Prior to Max* I could get around 1.8Mb (with Pipex) but now the speed seems
to vary considerably between 1 and 2Mbps. Why should I not be able to get
anywhere near 4.5-5Mbps

Any advice would be most welcome.

Regards

Bear in mind that the line checkers just make an educated guess, and YMMV.

Are you talking about the speed that your equipment is synced at, or the
rate at which packets get from the internet, through your service providers
network, through BT's network and thence to you?

Post some line stats from your CPE, and we'll be able to give a more useful
answer.

hi there

i appreciate that the checkers are only a gestimate but thought i might get
nearer to 4.5 rather than 2.5. also i appreciate that speeds will vay
according to usage by others. not too sure of the info you require. i am
using firefox and their download speedtest shows 1.46Mbps and 1.3 using
thinkbroadband.
what does cpe stand for?

found the following on the router stats -

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6688 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 9.0 db 5.0 db
Noise Margin 16.7 db 21.0 db

Customer Premises Equipment; your adsl modem, router, set top box or
whatever you're using.
